Mid Smoke from CT Spawn
CS2 Vertigo mid smoke from CT Spawn. Blocks T mid pushes early and protects CT rotations between A and B sites safely.

Steps
- From CT Spawn, walk toward the mid corridor and stop at the concrete wall on the left side. Press your left shoulder into the wall where it meets the metal railing that overlooks the lower level.
- Look down the mid corridor toward the T side. Find the metal beam that spans across the corridor ceiling about halfway between your position and the T side opening.
- Place your crosshair on the right end of the metal beam - right where the beam meets the concrete wall on the right side of the corridor.
- Perform a standing left-click throw - no jump or run-up needed. Simply aim and release the smoke.
- The smoke travels down the corridor and blooms in mid, creating a wall of smoke that blocks the T-side sightline into mid and prevents early aggression or information gathering.
Tips
- Throw this smoke in the first few seconds of every CT round. Mid control on Vertigo is critical because it connects both bombsites, and letting Ts take mid for free gives them a massive strategic advantage.
- The standing throw is extremely fast to execute, allowing you to smoke mid and still reach your A or B defensive position before Ts arrive.
- If the smoke lands too close to your position (not far enough into mid), lower your crosshair slightly below the beam junction to increase the throw distance.
- On Vertigo, mid is especially important because the multi-level design means Ts with mid control can split to either site quickly. This smoke denies that option early.
- Practice this lineup offline with
sv_cheats 1; sv_infinite_ammo 1; sv_grenade_trajectory 1; sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10; mp_roundtime_defuse 60to confirm the placement. - After the smoke fades (about 18 seconds), be prepared for a mid push. Have a teammate or yourself ready to re-smoke mid or hold it with a rifle.
When to Use
This smoke controls the center of Vertigo on CT side. Use it for:
- Opening defense on virtually every CT round to deny Ts free mid control and early information about your setup
- Safe rotations between A and B sites when you need to move through mid without being spotted by a lurker or scout
- Delaying mid splits where Ts try to push through mid to attack either site from an unexpected angle
- Post-plant scenarios where smoking mid prevents Ts from holding cross-angles between the bombsites during your retake
- Anti-eco rounds where Ts might rush mid with pistols and your smoke forces them to slow down or push through blind
