Steps
- From CT A, walk to the corner of the wall that provides cover from the A Ramp sightline. Stand with your back against the wall, facing toward A Ramp from a safe off-angle position.
- Look toward the A Ramp entrance. Find the top of the metal railing that runs along the upper edge of the ramp as it transitions from the lower level to the site level.
- Place your crosshair on the center of the railing’s top bar - right at the midpoint where the horizontal bar is equidistant from both support posts.
- Perform a standing left-click throw - no jump or special movement required. Simply aim and release the smoke.
- The smoke lands right at the top of A Ramp, creating a wall of smoke that blocks all T vision as they try to push up from the lower level onto the site.
Tips
- This is the fastest and easiest defensive smoke for A site on Vertigo. You can throw it reactively the moment you hear footsteps or utility coming up A Ramp.
- The standing throw makes this extremely consistent - no timing element to worry about, which is critical when you are under pressure during a fast execute.
- If the smoke lands too far down the ramp (below the site level), lower your crosshair slightly below the center of the railing to adjust the throw distance.
- After smoking A Ramp, you can either play aggressively behind the smoke with a close-range weapon or fall back to a deeper position and wait for teammates to rotate.

When to Use
This smoke is your primary defensive tool for A Ramp on Vertigo. Use it for:
- Early-round defense when you hear Ts rushing up A Ramp and need to delay the push immediately
- Buying time for rotations when your teammates need to cross from B or mid to reinforce A site
- Retake setups where you smoke the ramp to isolate Ts on site from their teammates still pushing up from below
- Eco round stalls where your team cannot contest with rifles and needs to delay the execute as long as possible
- Solo A holds when you are the only player on the site and need to slow down the push until backup arrives
