Steps
- From B Site, walk to the pillar in the center of the site. Stand on the left side of the pillar (facing toward Monster), using the pillar as partial cover from the Monster entrance.
- Look toward the Monster archway ahead. You can see the dark tunnel opening with the ramp leading down into Monster.
- Place your crosshair on the top of the Monster archway, centered horizontally. Aim right where the arch meets the flat ceiling above it - there is a visible seam in the stonework.
- Perform a standing left-click throw - hold and release left click with no movement or jump. The throw distance is short so a simple toss is all that is needed.
- The smoke blooms directly in the Monster exit archway, creating a thick barrier that completely blocks vision for any Ts trying to push out of Monster onto B site.
Tips
- This is the single most important defensive smoke on B site. Without it, the Monster entrance gives Ts a direct path onto site with multiple angles to clear. The smoke funnels them into predictable positions.
- If the smoke lands inside Monster (too deep), your crosshair was too low. Raise it to the top of the archway so the smoke bounces off the arch and blooms right at the exit.
- After throwing, reposition to Heaven or behind the pillar. CTs who throw the Monster smoke and then stand still get traded easily when Ts push through or around it.
- Practice offline with these commands:
sv_cheats 1; sv_infinite_ammo 1; sv_grenade_trajectory 1; sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10; mp_roundtime_defuse 60 - Combine this with the B Short smoke from Heaven to block both entrances to B site simultaneously. This forces Ts to either push through smokes or wait them out while your team rotates.
- Watch for Ts pushing through the smoke aggressively. Hold a close angle with a shotgun or SMG to punish anyone who walks through blind.
When to Use
This smoke is a CT-side staple for B site defense on Overpass. Use it when:
- Early round as your opening defensive utility to buy time and prevent fast Monster pushes before your team has full information
- Anchoring B solo when you are the only CT on the site and need to reduce the number of angles you have to watch simultaneously
- Stalling for rotations when you hear a B execute and need your A teammates to have time to rotate to help
- Post-plant retakes when Ts have planted and a player may be hiding in Monster - the smoke blocks their vision while you defuse
- Save rounds when your team is on a low buy and you need to minimize risk while still holding the site passively
