Vent Room HE Grenade from Lobby

Nuke HE grenade to damage CTs in vent room from lobby. Easy throw that punishes defenders holding the vent drop position near A site.

Steps

  1. From Lobby, walk toward the entrance to Vent Room (the doorway connecting lobby to the vent area). Stop just before the doorway and stay on the right side so you have cover from anyone inside.
  2. Press your right shoulder against the right side of the doorframe. This keeps you hidden from anyone holding inside vent room while giving you a clean throwing angle.
  3. Look through the doorway into vent room. You should see the back wall of the room and the vent opening on the floor. Above the far wall, find the horizontal pipe or metal beam that runs along the ceiling.
  4. Aim at the back wall of vent room, placing your crosshair just below the ceiling line where the wall meets the roof. Target the center of the wall, roughly above where a CT would be standing or crouching near the vent drop.
  5. Left click to throw the HE grenade. It flies through the doorway, hits the back wall, and bounces down into the vent area. The explosion covers the entire room, damaging anyone near the vent drop or hiding along the walls.

Tips

  • CTs in vent room control the rotation path between upper and lower Nuke. Dealing 50-75 damage to this player before your A site execute means they either fall back or fight at a huge health disadvantage.
  • Vent room is a small enclosed space, which means HE grenades are especially effective here. The walls contain the explosion, so even a CT who is not standing directly on the landing spot takes splash damage.
  • If the grenade is bouncing back toward you instead of into the room, you are aiming too low on the wall. Raise your crosshair to near the ceiling line so the HE hits high and drops down. If it flies over the vent drop and hits the far corner, shift your aim slightly toward the center of the back wall.
  • Throw this HE before your team pushes through lobby toward A site. The vent room player is often the first CT to contest a lobby push, so tagging them early makes the entry much safer.
  • Pair this with a flash into vent room immediately after the HE detonates. The CT will be low health and trying to reposition - a flash at that moment gives you an easy kill as you push through.

When to Use

This HE grenade clears one of Nuke’s key defensive positions. Use it when:

  • A site executes through lobby - throw it as your first piece of utility to soften the vent room anchor before your team commits
  • Vent room control plays where you need to take the vent area to enable a player to drop down to lower site for a split execute
  • Early round information gathering - throw the HE into vent room and listen for a damage hit sound to confirm whether a CT is holding that position
  • Anti-eco rounds where CTs might play aggressive positions inside vent room with shotguns or SMGs - the HE can finish off unarmored players outright
  • Retake denial on post-plant situations where a CT is trying to use vent room as a rotation path back to A site
