Steps

  1. From CT Spawn, walk toward the mid corridor and stop at the stone doorway on the right side. Stand with your right shoulder pressed against the right edge of the doorframe, partially shielded from the mid sightline.
  2. Look down the mid corridor toward the T side. Find the horizontal gap in the wall structure about halfway down the corridor, where the stone wall has a visible seam between two sections.
  3. Place your crosshair on the center of the horizontal gap - right at the midpoint of the seam line between the two wall sections.
  4. Perform a standing left-click throw - no jump or movement needed. Simply aim and release the HE grenade.
  5. The grenade travels down the corridor and detonates in the center of mid, dealing heavy damage to any T pushing through the middle of the map. The tight corridor walls amplify the blast, making it difficult for Ts to avoid taking significant damage.

Tips

  • This HE is most effective in the first 10-15 seconds of the round when Ts are often pushing through mid aggressively for early map control. The narrow corridor means the grenade splash damage hits nearly every player in the area.
  • The mid corridor on Ancient is tight enough that a single HE can hit multiple Ts grouped together, sometimes dealing 150+ total team damage across 2-3 players.
  • If the grenade detonates too close to your position (not reaching mid), your crosshair was too high. Lower it to increase the throw distance down the corridor.
  • Pair this with the mid smoke for a devastating combo. Smoke mid first, then HE into the smoke - Ts waiting to push through the smoke take damage without seeing it coming.
  • Practice this lineup offline with sv_cheats 1; sv_infinite_ammo 1; sv_grenade_trajectory 1; sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10; mp_roundtime_defuse 60 to dial in the exact landing spot.
  • The HE detonation also provides information. If you get hit markers, you know Ts are pushing mid and can call for your team to set up accordingly.

When to Use

This HE grenade punishes T-side mid aggression on Ancient. Use it for:

  • Early-round mid denial where you HE the corridor to damage Ts pushing for mid control in the opening seconds
  • Smoke and HE combos where you smoke mid first and then HE into the smoke to damage anyone waiting to push through
  • Anti-rush defense when you hear a fast mid push and need to punish the grouped-up attackers before they spread out
  • Eco round defense where the HE damage on mid pushers can turn an eco round into a winnable situation for your team
  • Information plays where the HE hit markers confirm T presence in mid, allowing your team to adjust their defensive setup
