Steps
- From your A site defensive position, move to the tall stone pillar on the right side of the site. Stand behind the pillar with your right shoulder touching the stone, giving you cover from the A Main entrance while you line up.
- Look toward the A Main entrance. Find the stone archway that marks the transition from the A Main corridor into the site.
- Place your crosshair on the center of the archway’s top edge - right at the apex of the arch where the two curved sides meet at the top.
- Perform a standing left-click throw - no jump or movement needed. Simply aim at the archway top and release.
- The HE grenade travels into the A Main corridor and detonates right at the entrance, dealing up to 60-80 HP damage to any T grouped up in the corridor preparing to push onto the site.
Tips
- This HE is most effective when thrown reactively after hearing multiple footsteps in A Main. Ts often group up in the corridor before pushing, and a well-timed HE can damage 2-3 players at once.
- After throwing the HE, immediately reposition to a different angle. The Ts now know your approximate position and will pre-fire the spot where the grenade came from.
- If the grenade detonates too deep inside A Main (not hitting the players at the entrance), lower your crosshair slightly below the archway apex to shorten the throw distance.
- Combine this with the A Main smoke for maximum impact. Smoke A Main, wait for the Ts to stack up behind the smoke, then HE into the smoke to catch them grouped.
- Practice this lineup offline with
sv_cheats 1; sv_infinite_ammo 1; sv_grenade_trajectory 1; sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10; mp_roundtime_defuse 60to confirm the detonation point. - On eco rounds, this HE can be the difference between a T arriving at 100 HP versus 40 HP. That damage makes pistol headshots lethal even against helmeted opponents.

This HE grenade is a core defensive tool for A site anchors on Ancient. Use it for:
- Anti-rush defense when you hear a fast push through A Main and want to punish the grouped-up attackers with splash damage
- Utility stacking where you throw an HE into your smoke to damage Ts waiting behind it, then follow up with a molotov or flash
- Eco round defense where every point of damage matters and softening Ts before the gunfight starts gives your team an edge
- Post-plant denial where you HE A Main to damage Ts pushing through to establish post-plant positions
- Information gathering where the hit markers from the HE confirm how many Ts are grouped in A Main, helping your team make rotation calls
