A Default HE Grenade from A Main
Ancient HE grenade to damage CTs at the A default plant spot from A Main. Easy throw that softens defenders holding the open area of A site.

Steps
- Walk up A Main toward the entrance to A site. Stop at the final corner before the site opening, staying behind the right-side wall for full cover.
- Press yourself against the right wall at the corner. Your right shoulder should be flush with the stone surface so the throw angle is consistent every time you use this lineup.
- Look toward A site through the gap. You should see the open default plant area with the large stone structures and pillars around it. Find the far wall behind the default zone.
- Aim at the stone wall behind the default plant area, placing your crosshair on the upper-middle section of the wall. Target the area where you can see a visible texture change or horizontal line on the stonework - roughly two meters above ground level.
- Left click to throw the HE grenade. It arcs from A Main into the site, hits the back wall, and bounces down into the default plant area. The explosion covers the zone where CTs typically hold or fall back to when defending A site.
Tips
- The A default area on Ancient is a common CT anchor position because it offers sightlines to both A Main and the donut area. This HE grenade punishes defenders who rely on that position, dealing 50-80 damage.
- Ancient’s A site has a lot of stone surfaces, which means HE grenades bounce predictably. Once you learn the exact aim point, this lineup is extremely consistent.
- If the grenade is bouncing too far and rolling past the default area toward CT spawn, your aim is too high on the wall. Lower your crosshair. If it is detonating before reaching the default area and landing in the open space of A Main, you are throwing too low and the HE is hitting the top of the entrance instead of sailing through.
- Throw this HE as part of your A execute utility chain. The ideal timing is: smoke the deep angles, throw the HE toward default, flash over the wall, and push immediately as a group.
- Pair this with a Molotov on the cave/close position to force the CT at default into the open. If they fall back from the Molotov, they walk right into your HE grenade’s landing zone.

When to Use
This HE grenade weakens the primary A site defender on Ancient. Use it when:
- A site executes - throw it as your damage utility right before the team pushes out of A Main to ensure the default player is tagged
- Slow A Main takes where your team is methodically clearing the site with utility rather than rushing - the HE softens the anchor while you maintain control of A Main
- Anti-eco rounds where CTs might play aggressive close angles around the default area - the HE can deal lethal damage to unarmored players
- Clutch situations where you know a CT is holding default and you need to weaken them before swinging wide from A Main for the duel
- Force-buy rounds - the $300 investment to tag a CT for 60+ damage is huge when your team is on pistols or SMGs and needs every health advantage possible
