Setting Up a Practice Server
Before you start practicing lineups, you need to set up a local server with the right settings. Open the console (~) and enter these commands:
sv_cheats 1
mp_warmup_end
mp_freezetime 0
mp_roundtime_defuse 60
sv_infinite_ammo 1
sv_grenade_trajectory 1
sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10
sv_showimpacts 1
What Each Command Does
- sv_cheats 1 - Enables cheat commands (required for practice)
- sv_infinite_ammo 1 - Unlimited grenades so you can throw repeatedly
- sv_grenade_trajectory 1 - Shows the flight path of your grenades
- sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10 - How long the trajectory line stays visible (seconds)
- sv_showimpacts 1 - Shows where bullets and grenades land
- mp_roundtime_defuse 60 - Extends round time so you have plenty of time to practice
- mp_freezetime 0 - Removes freeze time at round start
Useful Extra Commands
noclip // Fly around the map freely (toggle on/off)
bind "KEY" "noclip" // Bind noclip to a key for quick toggling
give weapon_smokegrenade // Give yourself a smoke grenade
give weapon_flashbang // Give yourself a flashbang
give weapon_hegrenade // Give yourself an HE grenade
give weapon_molotov // Give yourself a molotov
Jump Throw Bind
Many lineups require a jump throw for consistency. Add this to your autoexec.cfg:
alias "+jumpthrow" "+jump; -attack"
alias "-jumpthrow" "-jump"
bind "KEY" "+jumpthrow"
Replace KEY with your preferred key. This ensures the smoke releases at the exact peak of your jump every time.
Practice Tips
- Focus on one map at a time - Don’t try to learn every lineup on every map at once
- Start with the essentials - Learn the 3-4 most important smokes for each map first
- Use a checklist - Mark off each lineup as you master it
- Practice with friends - Set up an execute and practice the timing of coordinated throws
- Record your practice - Compare your smoke landing spots to the guides to spot errors
